The name Eskimo was long thought to mean "eaters of raw meat". The traditional dress of polar bear, seal skin, boots and fur-lined coverings have helped Inuit people to survive some of Earth’s coldest weather for centuries. Without sea ice, seals cannot build ledges, on which to rest, eat and bear their pups. Walruses cannot find refuge on drift ice to rest and digest their meals of clams and other shell fish. Polar bears cannot catch seals, if there is no ice. Hunters cannot travel in dog sled in search of game for food and skins. Arctic biologists say that the entire eco system is in collapse. Because of the disappearing cold ice, hunters have to shoot their dogs because there is not enough food to feed them. Without sea ice, without sled dogs, without polar bears, marine mammals and birds, traditional life in the Arctic could crumble pretty quickly and without the skins of polar bears and seals the Inuit culture will die out .

NIKON D3 | 1/250 sec. | f/16 28mm | ISO 400 | AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G
original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_05--original.jpg original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_05--original.jpg
Greenland, Uummannaq, October 21, 2009, Dead white fox hanging on a hook.

NIKON D3 | 1/60 sec. | f/5.6 28mm | ISO 1000 | AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G
original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_04--original.jpg original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_04--original.jpg
Greenland, Uummannaq, October, 2009.

NIKON D3 | 1/125 sec. | f/11 28mm | ISO 400 | NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G
original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_06--original.jpg original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_06--original.jpg
Greenland, Uummannaq, October 21, 2009.
Standing over the cliffs looking at the ice bergs one can see the results of our modern day throw-away society, discarded junk, computers, dish washers, washing machines, televisions, stereos, office supplies, toilets, trucks, cars, tires… Junk, the past, present colliding into the future. This junk comes from the west, Western and Eastern Europe and Asia. Big cargo ships are bringing it also via currents in the ocean it ends up in Greenland. The World is poisoning Greenland but will not allow them to sell their natural products, such as seal skins in the open market. The European Union has placed a ban on the selling of seal and polar bear, which is the food that Greenlanders eat and survive on. They want them to eat junk food such as McDonald’s, which comes from one of the biggest polluters in the World, the USA. The question is simple, society in its mad drive in the so call interest of modernization, we are polluting the Earth, with no care to the future and the next generation that will inherit the Earth. We have this ‘let’s live for today’ attitude, get rich and grow fat, being comfortable and losing the moral compass, and in the process destroying the World.

NIKON D3 | 1/250 sec. | f/5.6 28mm | ISO 400 | AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G
original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_01--original.jpg original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_01--original.jpg
Syria, Aleppo, 2013, The old souk, a UNESCO heritage site. ”Who will solve the depths of horrors to defend a sun beam's architecture with his life and carve jungles of despair to hold a mountain heartbeat in his hand."- quote by E.E. By using solar lamps the fisher men can fish much longer than using Kerosene laterins , and the can catch four to fives times more fish . instead of the usually 3hours on the lake they can stay out more than twelve hours at a time , but the down side is the fish stock are depleting much faster.

NIKON D3S | 1/60 sec. | f/4.0 27mm | ISO 12800 | AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED
original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_03--original.jpg true true original /imported/images/web/EU/ambassadors/noor-ambassadors/stanley-greene/noor-ambassador_stanleygreene_03--original.jpg
Kenya, Mbita, 2010, Nyachebe Solar Fishermen.

NIKON D3S | AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED
original original special_project original I AM KADIR VAN LOHUIZEN Photojournalist & Lecturer Menu DAVID YARROW Wildlife & Fine Arts OVERVIEW PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS Photography Tips SPECIAL PROJECT About the Special Project BIOGRAPHY Biography GALLERY Gallery WHAT’S IN MY BAG What’s in my bag?
