Remarkable image quality: the Nikon 1 V3’s large 18.4-megapixel CMOS sensor delivers extraordinarily detailed photos and HD movies. Designed without an optical low-pass filter, this fast CX-format sensor makes the most of every megapixel to sharply capture even the finest textures and render clean, crisp images.

Wide ISO range: with an ISO range of 160–12800, the V3 delivers pristine images in low light. An auto ISO range of 160–6400 allows the camera to set the perfect ISO, and you can increase sensitivity up to ISO 12800 in order to shoot without a flash in dim settings. Two sophisticated noise reduction settings reduce noise when shooting at ISO 6400 or 12800.

Advanced hybrid AF: the breakthrough Nikon 1 hybrid AF system uses 171 autofocus points to lock quickly onto your subject. The system instantly switches between 105 phase-detection AF points that spot movement at breakneck speed, and contrast-detect AF, which extends to the edge of the frame so you can focus sharply on peripheral subjects.

Lightning-fast FPS: with RAW format shooting speeds that are faster than a D-SLR, the V3 leaves nothing to chance. The camera takes 40 images in a rapid burst, delivering continuous shooting at up to 60 fps with focus fixed at the first frame, and up to 20 fps with continuous AF. Reliable shutter mechanism: equipped with mechanical and electronic shutters, you can rely on the V3 shot after shot. The mechanical shutter is tested to 100,000 cycles, and the camera uses the electronic shutter when shooting at ultra-high speed.

Virtual horizon: centre the camera to avoid photos with sloping lines and keep distortion to a minimum. A graphic is displayed over the image on the LCD monitor to show the camera’s orientation relative to the horizontal plane. Roll (horizontal inclination) and pitch (forward or rear inclination) information can be confirmed via the LCD monitor, or the external viewfinder.

Highlight display: avoid blown highlights caused by overexposure. This feature causes highlight areas in the image to blink black on the LCD monitor during playback, alerting you to possible exposure problems.

Professional quality movies: for everything from Full HD movies to colourful travelogues, Nikon 1 is your perfect movie partner. Hit the record button to start filming instantly, or take manual control over settings. Relive every heartbeat in Slow Motion, which plays back a three-second, 120 fps HD movie clip over 12 seconds. E-VR keeps your movies sharply focused, even when filming at full zoom.²

Photos while filming: why choose between movies and photos when you can capture both at once? With Nikon 1 you can capture high-resolution stills while filming simply by pressing the shutter-release button, or use Auto Image Capture, which analyses every frame and automatically snaps photos when conditions are best.

Creative movie modes: Fast Motion, Jump Cut, and 4-Second Movie features put the cinematographer in you centre stage. Energise your street scenes with Fast Motion, put an animated stop-motion feel on the passage of time with Jump Cut, or get expressive with concise 4-Second Movie clips (you can stitch eight together).

Best Moment Capture: Nikon 1 always gets the best shot with Active Selection, Smart Photo Selector, and Slow View. Active Selection snaps up to 40 full-resolution shots in less than a second, and you choose the ones to keep; Smart Photo Selector recommends technically perfect images; Slow View lets you review and pick the shot that says it all.

Motion Snapshot: add movement to everyday snaps and show more of a moment. With Nikon’s unique Motion Snapshot, the camera creates an easy-to-share ‘living image’ that starts as a 4-second slow-motion clip and ends with perfectly focused still image.

Live image control: quickly and intuitively enhance photos before you take them. Simply adjust the control bars that appear next to your image in order to fine-tune brightness, depth of field, and contrast. Creative Mode: use Nikon 1 effects to add a creative twist to shots. Put more detail into high-contrast scenes using High Dynamic Range, or apply artistic filters like Miniature, Toy Camera, and Cross Process to still images before you shoot.

Creative Palette: apply artistic, studio-quality filters to photos before you shoot. Creative Palette adjusts brightness, saturation, and white balance as it cycles through various effects: all you need to do is slide your finger around the ring on the touchscreen, or rotate the multi selector, and the on-screen image changes. Take the shot the moment you see the look you want.

Built-in flash: add some extra light to photos with the built-in flash. For more professional lighting, use the optional SB-N7 Speedlight, a compact and powerful flash unit that’s a great way to get more creative with the light.
