You can select the speed you want to shoot at, and instantly view fast-action sequences as one group of shots.

Advanced hybrid AF: Nikon’s trailblazing hybrid AF system uses 171 autofocus points to rapidly lock onto your subject. The system instantly switches between 105 phase-detection AF points and fast contrast-detect AF. Phase-detection AF spots movement at breakneck speed. Contrast-detect AF extends to the edge of the frame so you can focus sharply on peripheral subjects, even in low light.

Mind-blowing movies: record movies in ultra-sharp 4K/15p or Full HD 1080/60p to sweep your audience off their feet.² Relive every heartbeat in Slow Motion, which plays back a three-second, 120-fps HD movie clip over 12 seconds. Use Auto Image Capture or manual shooting to capture stills whilst filming. Active-D lighting conquers high-contrast scenes to deliver naturally balanced light and shade throughout. Creative movie modes: Fast Motion, Jump Cut, and 4-Second Movie features put the cinematographer in you centre stage. Energise your street scenes with Fast Motion, put an animated stop-motion feel on the passage of time with Jump Cut, or get expressive with concise 4-Second Movie clips.

Time-lapse movies: showcase the passage of time with stunning Full HD time-lapse clips composed of up to 300 photos. Attach the Nikon 1 J5 to a tripod to capture the wonder of slow-building marvels. Hang the camera around your neck to create a unique take on your urban adventures. You can set the camera to take shots every 5, 10 or 30 seconds.

Superior ergonomics: compact doesn’t mean cramped with the Nikon 1 J5. The camera’s clean, simple design and perfect spacing between dials ensures controls are easy to reach so that you can shoot without taking your eye off your subject. Easily switch between PSAM and Sports modes via the Mode Dial. Change settings with the command dial and assign frequently used settings to the Fn (Function) button.

Tiltable touchscreen monitor: the responsive 7.5-cm (3.0-in.), 1037k-dot LCD monitor enables clear operation even when the monitor is tilted. Go low for extreme action shots, or easily shoot from a high vantage point thanks to the 86-degree reverse angle. Tilt the monitor up 180 degrees and use Self-portrait mode to soften skin or set the Self-timer. Simply tap the high-resolution monitor to focus and shoot, make intuitive adjustments to camera settings, preview creative functions or disable the touchscreen.

NFC & Wi-Fi enabled: sharing impressive Nikon 1 photos via a smart device has never been easier. Simply touch the Nikon 1 J5 with an NFC (Near Field Communication)-compatible smart device and you can transfer the image that’s showing on the camera’s LCD screen. To transfer photos to your smart device via Wi-Fi, simply press the camera’s dedicated Wi-Fi button⁵. You can also use the Wi-Fi function to trigger the camera shutter remotely, or create perfect compositions by previewing shots on your tablet or smartphone’s screen.

Live Image Control: quickly and intuitively enhance photos or movies in a range of modes before you shoot. Simply adjust the control bars that appear next to your image in order to fine-tune brightness, depth of field, and contrast. Use Creative Palette to apply artistic, studio-quality filters simply by sliding the touchscreen wheel to achieve the look you want. Watch the changes take effect on the LCD monitor: what you see is exactly what you’ll get the moment you press the shutter.

Creative Mode: get creative with popular effects for stills and movies. Go back in time with Retro, be artistic in black-and-white with the moody High Contrast Monochrome, add some zing with Pop, or fit the whole scene in with Panorama. There are 14 effects to choose from in total, and you can access five scene modes that automatically optimise camera settings for portraits, landscapes and close-ups.

Best Moment Capture: capture the magic hidden inside of a second with Smart Photo Selector, Active Selection and Slow View. Use the Nikon 1 J5’s on-board photo expert to pick technically outstanding images in Smart Photo Selector. Choose the photos you want to keep from up to 20 shots snapped in less than a second with Active Selection. Pick the ultimate shot from a slow-motion sequence in Slow View.

Motion Snapshot: show more of a moment and create photos that move in just one click. Designed for sharing, Motion Snapshot creates a “living image”, which starts as a four-second slow-motion clip and ends with a beautiful still. Share instantly, or launch Nikon’s free ViewNX-Movie Editor software to edit and combine with other stills and movie clips.
