Supporting Our Local Communities
We’re proud of the initiatives we support and the efforts of our staff to make the world a better place for everyone. These projects run by our local country teams are just a few of the ways we give back to our European communities.

Girl’s Day - Germany
Nikon Germany joined in a countrywide initiative to encourage teenage girls to consider occupations traditionally held by males, by inviting a group of 13-15 year-olds to a workshop on the technical world of microscopy and photography.

Blood Donation - Russia
Nikon Russia holds a blood donation drive twice a year to support children with blood diseases. The donated blood is given to the Dmitry Rogachev National Research Centre of Paediatric Haematology, Oncology and Immunology, which provides health care for more than 500 children affected by blood disorders.

Beach Cleaning – The Netherlands
Nikon Europe teamed up with the Sea First Foundation to tackle the problem of plastic pollution on local beaches. A team of 44 Nikon employees headed down to the beach to collect 2,000 pieces of waste in three hours. The Sea First Foundation was also gifted a donation for its vital work in beach conservation, and their founder gave a talk on the growing problem of sea pollution and how individuals can make a difference to combat the issue.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - Hungary
Nikon Hungary supported a local school programme to train children to be environmentally aware by donating seven pallets of paper for recycling. In a separate initiative, they also collected usable toys and clothes for donation to the needy at Christmas, reducing waste and providing much-needed support for the vulnerable.

Employee Chosen Charity – United Kingdom and Nordics
Nikon staff in the UK and Nordics select a charity to support each year. Since it began in the UK in 2005, staff have raised over €258,000. Supported charities have always been in the area of healthcare, and have included hospices, cancer care, Alzheimer’s research and mental health. While our employees focus on fundraising, their efforts also bring publicity to the charities and opportunities for staff volunteering.

Light on Small – The Netherlands
Nikon Europe BV has collaborated with the Eco-Schools initiative run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) since 2017, creating an original programme called ‘Light On Small’. By funding the development cost for educational materials and donating Nikon microscopes and cameras, the project raises awareness of environmental issues with school-age children. Around 300 children in five schools have already benefited from this ongoing programme.
